Goa State Mental Health Authority is constituted as per Mental Healthcare Act 2017 vide Notification no. 9/1/2018-III/PHD/1065 dated 18/05/2020 by Public Health Department, Secretariat, Porvorim-Goa to regulate and coordinate the Mental Health services in the State.

As mandated under section 73 of the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017, Mental Health Review Board have been constituted vide Notification no. GSMHA/Review Board/01/2021-22/3492 dated 08/02/2022 by State Mental Health Authority at one location encompassing both the districts in the State. The District Mental Health Review Board consist of 6 members with retired district Judge as Chairperson, one Psychiatrist, one Medical Practitioner, One Representative of District Collector and two members, who shall be persons with mental illness or care-givers or persons representing organizations of persons with mental illness or care-givers or non-governmental organizations working in the field of Mental Health. The decisions of the District Mental Health Review Board shall be by Consensus.
